i wish i had time.

to write my own music. i have so many ideas that i've written down and put away because i know i absolutely do not have the time this semester.

my latest idea, that i thought of today, is to do a One Scene opera. Composers, in the late twentieth, because of low chance of play-ability, began to write shorter and shorter operas. One Act opera became popular. Mine will be one scene. Involving electronics (my supposed new doctoral specialty) and small orchestra.

The one scene will be a typically morning of a small family (because i like every-day occurrences and non-profound ideas). So the mom and dad will wake and argue, yell at the son for playing music loud, someone will burn the toast, everyone will be late to work and class.

The electronic sounds will be integrated into the orchestra. I will be purposely not use pre-recorded sounds or generate sounds like alarms or radios, but try to treat the electronic sounds as individual instruments and sound sources.

I can't wait to start working on this.

in a quiet sort of way, no matter where i go next year, i can have the oppurtunity be a Phd candidate for a degree in experimental music. which is pretty awesome.

hard work, studying, actually doing something and my generation

26 and still in academia, i'm around people who are my age and who are younger than me (the age i used to be)-- that being, i see coincidences and patterns on how people "my age" are.

and i think my generation
1. suffers from the crazy reliance of 'untrained self' - the uneducated bastard of self-reliance.
a. we're in love with calling everything 'art'. everyone can philosophize. everyone can write music.
b. without research, without training, without actually learning.
c. and to the degree of the 'greats' of the field. everyone knows a different greatest mind of all time.
d. everything is 'so profound'.

in case you didn't know.

merriam-webster named 'w00t' word of the year for 2007.

"Thousands of you took part in the search for Merriam-Webster's Word of the Year for 2007, and the vast majority of you chose a small word that packs a pretty big punch. The word you've selected hasn't found its way into a regular Merriam-Webster dictionary yet—but its inclusion in our online Open Dictionary, along with the top honors it's now been awarded—might just improve its chances. This year's winning word first became popular in competitive online gaming forums as part of what is known as l33t ("leet," or "elite") speak—an esoteric computer hacker language in which numbers and symbols are put together to look like letters. Although the double "o" in the word is usually represented by double zeroes, the exclamation is also known to be an acronym for "we owned the other team"—again stemming from the gaming community."

it's the 17th and a week from Christmas
the weather is unusually cold and it stings my lungs
as i get back in shape for my team.
the two mile run is exhilarating and tiring.

the overhanging trees create a canopy
as i run through the park
dark enough for an owl to continuously hoot as i pass
twice. 5:17
5:22
one side is the bay the safety harbor,
the other chief phillipe's grave.

5:39 i miss You
the sky changes from Blue to Orange
a Florida sunset
i wonder if you see the same way
you have me looking up these days.

01:53 am - "it is what is it"
what does that phrase mean? "it is what it is."

i really hate hearing that phrase. it doesn't mean anything. some might say, it implies a state of immutability, or simplicity, or blatancy. -- but not really.

USA Today's Sports Quote of 2004. it's seems like a phrases for people who can't say anything else; it's a sentence that's long and adds nothing.

My brother came to visit me this week. We went to the LSU-UF game.

The stadium was packed. Loud as hell. We were secretly cheering for Florida, lest we be killed. Everytime the student section said "Go Tigers", I said "No Tigers". Everytime we (florida) scored, and the crowd went silent, I was happy. I could barely hear Florida's band, but want to say Gator Bait everytime they played. I was really jealous when I could see the Florida section swaying together singing "We are the boys..." We were so close to winning that game. One of the best games in a while. It's tough going to a school that is obviously so good and holding an allegiance to my alma mater. One of my teammates at LSU told me I don't have any loyalty. I told him - of course I do.

LSU is so good this year. They are what Florida was last year - in their prime with their senior core. Florida lost 9 starters on defense. This year, LSU's amazing is fueled by mostly seniors. I think it may be LSU's year. Thanks everyone for texting me during the game. It was nice to know they were other people pulling for the Gators while I was in Death Valley and could barely voice my spirit.

I'm a Gator! no matter what. I tell everyone I'm a Tiger fan as long as they're not playing Florida. I went to Gainesville last year during their national championship. I may be lucky enough to be going to school of the next national champions. (i'm applying to USC and Michigan for my doctorate)

i've never really liked mustard. i would never put it on anything. the only thing close to mustard would be the occasional honey mustard dressing, just to say i've had and hate it.

but i recently was introduce to Stonewall Kitchen's Maine Maple Champagne Mustard.

this is probably the tastiest condiment i've ever had. i've since put it on my sandwich, sausage, and pita chips (which i think are great).

i suggest you try this 'tard.

I had my surgery today.
I showed up at 9:30am and sat around until 10:15. I thought they forgot about me. They ran a couple more tests and sat me back down. I signed a couple papers. They give me two tylenol pm's, but as soon I swallowed them, they called me for the procedure. The pills didn't actually kick in until after the procedure. :-)

The operating room as glass walls so the people in the waiting area can see what's going on. I saw abou 3 procedures while I was sitting in the waiting room.

I sat in a dark room for about 5 minutes as they calibrated the machines. They give me a little bag with my medication eyedrops and sunglasses. I'm supposed to drip things in my eyes for weeks and take vitamin c pills for months. The entire time I was in the dark room, I was hoping those pm's would kick in soon. I was very nervous. The doctor came in and introduced himself for the first and tried to me feel more comfortable. It helped a little bit - his ease almost negated the page of side effects on the concent form I just signed off to.

They had me put a name tag on my short with my birthday on it.

They walked me in and layed on the swiveling mattress and handed me a squeeze ball. I noticed how cold the operating room was. Numbing drops in each eye. More drops of something else. A tiny sponge on a stick. Then came a syringe with something he put on top of the eye (I was nervous that he would stick my eye with it).
Then they put a bunch of things to keep my eye lids open- some sticky things and then this metal thingy with hooks, which was the only painful thing of the procedure - the metal hooks.

The rest of the time I was to stare a small red light. The doctor held onto my chin. The machines started to slick and the red light seemed to change color, darker, blue and black. After a minute, he stopped. He dropped several more stuff in eye and sponged up the area. Then the second more painful part of the procedure - removing the metal hooks.

The second eye was the same thing. He told me it was excellent. I put on my sunglasses and walked out of the office. I could see. It wasn't exactly sharp or particularly clear, but I could tell my eyes were much better. There is a haze but things are much better. It's supposed to continue getting better. The tylenol finally kicked in about half an hour after I left the office and fell asleep. After I woke up, i could really see the difference. I'm able to see fairly well right now, enough to write this post.
